Marc Emery deal nixed by Harper Conservative government

Since the announced 10 year sentence with 5 to be done in a Canadian Prison.There have been rumors that the deal was in trouble.There was no mention of where the hold up originated or exactly what the problem was.In an article in the Vancouver Sun newspaper,Emery is quoted as saying that the Conservative government refused to go along with a proposal that would have seen him do 5 years behind bars for selling seeds through the mail.The original deal was for a 10 year sentence of which he would do five,mostly in Canada."all that was required was a rubber stamp from Ottawa"Emery said on Thurs."They have instead,rejected the deal without explanation...it is clearly political".Emery originally accepted the deal to save his co-accused from jail."i was willing,the Americans were willing and all we needed was for the conservative government to agree","I certainly didn't think it would be a problem"."After all I was agreeing to serve five years for a crime that would result in little more than a month in jail for any of the many seed sellers operating then,and now,in Vancouver and across Canada.Emery was the primary target because of his activism to end the prohibition of cannabis .Emery's collapsed plea bargain would have saved every one a lot of time and money.He is now prepared to fight extradition.Emery has run politically as a candidate in federal,provincial and civic elections and has championed legalized marijuana in parliamentary hearings,on national TV and in celebrity conferences as well as in his own magazine and Internet channel Pot TV.Health Canada once recommended medical MJ patients order seeds from Emery.From 1998 till his arrest he paid over$600,000 in taxes,and donated tens of thousands of dollars to politicians of all parties and levels."I operated openly and transparently"Emery suggested.Six times a year I sent every member of parliament a copy of my seed catalogue.""They all gladly cashed my cheques and are as guilty of money laundering as I am."Emery's last arrest in Canada resulted in a $2,000 fine.There's been a campaign to have letters sent to the PMO and I would like to think that even Steven Harper is capable of empathy and recognising a case in which we would be ceding our sovereignty to the Americans.I do,however,fear that this is just more dirty dealing by a government that sees marijuana as the devil's weed and that anyone having any dealings with it is dealing with the devil.As ridiculous as that is,it fits nicely into Harper's ideological agenda.Once again,anyone that wishes can send an e-mail to:[email protected]
